Save Your Teeth With Gum Disease Treatment
Early Detection Of Gum Disease Allows For Easier Treatment To Save Your Teeth And Bone
Do Not Wait Any Longer to
Take Care of YOU
Of people who have not been to a dentist in five or more years, a quarter believe that it is only necessary to go when there is a problem.
Unfortunately, gum disease often goes undetected in those who avoid the dentist, which can have serious consequences on the longevity of the teeth and overall health. Gum disease can lead to the loss of bone and teeth. It is therefore extremely important to seek treatment for this destructive oral condition early on.
My experience was a great experience. The quality of care I received was excellent. I was very comfortable. And the staff was very friendly! – Shelby T.
Gum Disease Treatment With Scaling and Root Planing
When gum disease is caught early enough, Dr. Samuel DeAngelo can treat it with a procedure called scaling and root planing.
- Scaling and root planing is a nonsurgical gum disease treatment.
- Local anesthesia is used to numb the affected areas, providing comfort during the procedure.
- A combination of ultrasonic and manual instruments are used above and below the gum line to clear the affected areas of bacterial, plaque, and tartar accumulation.
- Home care will be more effective
- This procedure encourages the gums to naturally reattach to the teeth, reducing the depths of the pockets between the teeth and gums.
Treating Advanced Stages of Gum Disease
As gum disease advances, further bone is lost. At this point, a surgical procedure is often necessary to address the infection. Osseous surgery is one of such procedures, and involves cutting a flap in the gums so the deeper structure of the tooth can be accessed and cleaned. Benefits of osseous surgery include:
- Decreased pocket depths around the teeth
- Infected tissue can be trimmed away
- Roots and bone discrepancies can be smoothed for reattachment of gum tissues
- Home care will be more effective
- Infection is arrested, allowing for a healthier mouth
If you are experiencing bleeding gums, tooth mobility, or if you have been skipping your routine cleanings, you may be suffering from gum disease. To schedule your gum disease evaluation, contact Dr. DeAngelo today.
